  • At the GS-07 level you will perform developmental duties, as assigned.
  • At the Full Performance Level (GS-09) you will perform the duties listed below:
  • You will conduct research with primary and secondary sources for exhibit scripts and artifact labels.
  • You will serve as chief editor of and writer for The Daybook, the official publication of Hampton Roads Naval Museum (HRNM).
  • You will work with Directors, Curators, and Exhibits Specialists, in various aspects of the exhibition process.
  • You will serve as Hampton Roads Naval Museum's social media manager.
  • You will research and write educational presentations for the public and naval commands.

Qualifications

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-05) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Examples of specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting with conducting primary and secondary historical research; 2) Assisting with the production of publications and editing of exhibit scripts; 3) Reviewing content for historical accuracy; 4) Aiding with researching and writing educational presentations; 5) responding to inquiries and comments.

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector communicating effectively orally and in writing. Examples of specialized experience include most or all of the following: 1) Conducting primary and secondary historical research; 2) Producing publications and editing exhibit scripts; 3) Reviewing content for historical accuracy; 4) Researching and writing educational presentations; 5) Responding to inquiries and comments.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

GS-07: In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

1 full academic year of related graduate level education

or

Superior academic achievement.

or

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.


GS-09: In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

2 full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education

or

master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the position

or

a combination of education and experience

Such education must be in a related field of study including art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to the position to be filled.

Several vacancies may be filled.

Post Secondary Students must be a currently enrolled in a full-time program at an institution of higher education as defined in 20 U.S.C. § 1001 and provide proof of continuous enrollment (i.e., documentation of registration or tuition bill from the college or university) at the time of application and have completed at least one full year of their academic program. Students must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.0 or greater, and making satisfactory progress towards the receipt of a bachelor's or graduate degree.

Recent Graduates must be appointed within two years of being awarded a bachelor's or graduate degree from a qualifying educational institution as defined in 20 U.S.C. § 1001.The two year period of eligibility will be extended to four years for veterans who have completed a period of obligated uniformed service of more than 4 years, and was awarded a degree by an institution of higher education not more than 4 years before the date of appointment.

Individuals selected for these positions may be required to sign and adhere to a program participation agreement and/or an individual development plan.

A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
