About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Help
  • Serve as the desk control officer with the responsibility of directing and operating the security communications system network.
  • Serve as the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) operator with the responsibility for the monitoring and the operational control of the Sensitive Arms IDS computers.
  • Maintain both secure and open communication with mobile patrols and posts, controls and directs security force actions in routine and/or emergency situations.
  • Initiate periodic patrol and post location and status check from security personnel.
  • Conduct long and short-term investigations when solutions cannot be achieved during the course of a normal shift.
  • Serve as the primary operator for the Intrusion Detection System consisting of two computer systems to monitor sensitive security buildings.
  • Instruct personnel having less familiarity with work operations on a day-to-day basis in specific security procedures and techniques applicable to orders and instructions relating to work assignments.
  • Exercise a thorough knowledge of all security orders, regulations and procedures applicable to all posts and patrols within the depot security operation.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • Pass, prior to hiring, a physical and mental examination and undergo annual physical and mental examinations to ensure fitness for duty.
  • This position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program governed by AR 600-85, The Army Substance Abuse Program. Incumbent is subject to random drug testing. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019.
  • Pass a Criminal History Background Check.
  • Pass annual Physical Agility Test (PAT) IAW AR 190-56 within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Qualify/remain qualified for the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle license.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Pass semi-annual weapons qualification on all assigned weapons.
  • Graduate from a USAMPS accredited academy (or receive a USAMPS waiver) within one year of hire.
  • Meet annual training and re-certification.
  • Complete initial/annual CPR recertification and first aid.
  • Must be able to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must wear the DACP/DACG uniform IAW AR 190-56 and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene; must be able to wear chemical protection equipment in accordance with AR 50-6.
  • Must successfully complete a Field Training Officer (FTO) program within one year prior to assignment of duties.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • This position does not meet the definition of Law Enforcement Officer and is excluded from coverage as Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) for purposes of the Federal Employment Retirement System-Basic Annuity IAW 5 CFR, Part 842, Subpart H.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring and operating the Sensitive Arms Intrusion Detection System (IDS) control panel; operating security communications systems; generating report forms, radio logs, alarm logs, guard station reports, and basic military type correspondence; standing guard post; and investigating criminal acts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06)..
