This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help
  • Record chief complaint and brief history of pediatric patient problem.
  • Assign appointments using written triage guidelines.
  • Perform body measurements and vitals.
  • Prepare laboratory, X-ray requests and other forms needed to carry out doctors' orders.
  • Assist patients to X-ray, Laboratory, Emergency Room and Inpatient Units for admission when directed by nurse/provider.
  • Participate in planning patient care.
  • Perform patient care as directed, indicated, and/or prescribed within scope of license.
  • Conduct patient and family teaching to include care coordination.
  • Perform treatments and tests using aseptic techniques.
  • Assist physicians in performing specialized procedures and exams.
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications and immunizations through various methods.
  • Recognize emergent situations and call Registered Nurse or provider.
  • Maintain all necessary records in assigned clinic.
  • Assist in the orientation of new personnel, students, and volunteers.
  • Assist in the supervision of the duties of medical technicians, students and volunteers assigned to the various Pediatric Clinics.
  • Input and retrieve information through the various computer systems daily.

  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network or obtain and maintain Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Practical Nurse:

  • Licensure: A current license to practice as a practical or vocational nurse in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia; OR must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license, a notarized statement attesting to the fact, or a citation of the license number and State issuing it. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirement listed below:
  • Experience: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as 1) Providing pediatric patient care; 2) Assisting in administering prescribed medications; and 3) measuring patients vital signs or updating patient medical records. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this grade level, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
